If you're wondering where to eat in Auckland , we're here to give you some tips. Auckland, New Zealand's largest city, is also the one with the most food options in the country. Basically, like in any other big city in the world, you can find all kinds of food.
If you want to try typical New Zealand dishes , such as roast lamb or pavlova, this is the place for you. If you want to try the fast food that Kiwis love the most , pies and fish & chips , you won't be short of options either. And, if you want to try international food, the number of immigrants means that you can try dishes from all over the world. Especially Asian ones : Indian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Thai restaurants... you just have to choose!

If you're looking for typical restaurants in Auckland , how about the oldest one in the city? Well, in New Zealand the concept of old is a bit different to the European one. We're talking about 1963, but more than sixty years of activity isn't bad, right? Of course, the restaurant has evolved quite a bit in this time. It started out as an Italian " pasta house " and now it's a steakhouse: Tony's Steakhouse . So, you know, if you like meat, this is your place. They also have fish and seafood dishes - like seafood chowder , the seafood stew, a classic - and there are still pasta dishes on the menu.

We didn't try the pasta – I'm still Italian – but we did go a couple of times to try some of their meats: both the steaks and the roast lamb. Every weekday, at lunchtime, they have a cheaper dish of the day. Keep in mind that lunch is from 11:45 to 14:15, if you go around 14:00 there won't be any New Zealanders and you'll find a place without booking.
Prices : starters between 10 and 18 NZD, main courses between 30 and 45 and desserts between 15 and 18. The portions are very generous. Daily specials between 16 and 20 NZD. The full menu is available on the website . Important: they don't charge a commission for paying by card, which is very unusual in New Zealand.
