It has long been a fact that the octopus is a rather incredible animal: 2 eyes, 3 hearts, 8 tentacles and 9 brains... enough to make many hyperactive people dream! But in recent weeks, the sequencing of the octopus genome by American researchers has revealed the reasons for its extraordinary intelligence! Needless on page seo service to say, at SPREAD, we were won over! That said, since biology wasn't really my favorite subject at school, let me tell you what it inspires in me from a marketing point of view! And take the opportunity to mention some of SPREAD's values.
Let’s take inspiration from the octopus to…
1- Its adaptability
What sets the octopus apart from all its invertebrate friends is its incredible ability to solve a problem it faces. Put it in front of a jar containing a nice little crab to eat… it will succeed in unscrewing its cap. Amazing, right?
In marketing, we are perpetually octopuses in a fishbowl. New problems are constantly emerging as behaviors, consumers and technologies evolve at high speed. And from hour to hour, new solutions are available to us to solve... new problems. Just like Pepiño in the video opposite, we must sharpen our ability to adapt. Observe, reflect, try, fail, understand, start again and then... find the solution . Again and again.
That's the big story of marketing: assessing a situation or a new need and being flexible enough to respond appropriately. That, I think, is the key to longevity.
At SPREAD, we have a commandment for that: “No problems, but solutions”!
2- His learning abilities
If you have 5 minutes, I strongly encourage you to browse the net. You will discover many amazing videos on the learning abilities of octopuses . Their secret weapon? Observation. In marketing, it's the same fight! Observation is a major component of your success . Qualify your customers, your prospects, learn from the data you can collect on them. Analyze their behaviors, their interests, in order to understand how to meet their expectations! Finally, when you have learned to know your target like the back of your tentacle fingers, you will have all the cards in hand to find THE right way to speak to them. Never lose this thirst for learning, I guarantee it is worth gold !
At SPREAD, we (also) have a commandment for that: “Greediness is not a bad fault”!
3- His friendly behavior
Did you know that octopuses can have a friendly relationship with humans, as long as they are trusted? Do the same. Be generous, true and honest in your relationship with your customers.
Small attentions, a personalized speech, a real listening, are all demonstrations of affection that will help you build a beautiful relationship with your customers . They can even become your best ambassadors ! We often tell you this, but they are above all human beings, endowed with feelings, with whom you are dealing. Do not neglect the importance of the human relationship in your customer relations .
At SPREAD, we (still) have a rule for that: “Don’t leave baby in a corner!”
4- Its astonishing speed
Unfortunately, we don't have 3 hearts, 8 tentacles and 9 brains... We have to admit, this limits us a little in terms of reactivity! However, the agility of octopuses is one of their great strengths.
The solution I propose to you: anticipate, optimize and above all, automate ! Of course, even if you have understood the importance of a One to One oriented marketing strategy, it is humanly impossible to be 100% available for each of your customers. However, you would not imagine wishing your customers a happy birthday 3 weeks late. Nor starting to promote your operation 2 days before its end…
One of our credos is precisely to offer you numerous turnkey campaigns to save you time. Between seasonal operations and our marketing automation tool , everything is done to allow you to roll out your strategy throughout the year!
At SPREAD, we (still) have a commandment for that: “Think towards infinity and beyond”!
5- Its uniqueness
Scientists are unanimous: the octopus is unlike any other animal on Earth. And if it continues to exist after 270 million years, it is mainly thanks to its atypical qualities. But deep down, it is not always a question of genetic coding! It is up to you to find that little something that will make you unique. It is up to you to cultivate your DNA and preserve it in each of your interventions, from the advertising campaign to the order confirmation email. Every opportunity is good. Be different, be yourself, and above all, stay true to yourself!
